Transport of Animals by Road (Short Journeys)

If you are involved in the transport of animals by road on short journeys (over 65km and up to 8 hours duration) this qualification will ensure you meet the requirement for a Certificate of Competence outlined in the Council Regulation (EC) No1/2005 on the Protection of Animals During Transport and the Welfare of Animals
(Transport) Order 2006.

Qualification Overview: The qualification is species specific (e.g. cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, horses, game birds). It covers the legal requirements, journey planning, vehicle suitability, fitness to travel, causes and signs of stress in animals, space allowances, stocking densities, handling and animal welfare in transit and post journey requirements.

What you need to do: Take a multiple choice computer based test (e-volve).

 

Long Distance Transport of Animals by Road – Attendant

This is a mandatory qualification for those transporting animals by road on long journeys (over 8 hours duration). This qualification meets the requirements for a Certificate of Competence outlined in the Council Regulation (EC) No1/2005 on the Protection of Animals During Transport and the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 2006.

Qualification Overview: Candidates can choose to be assessed on animals or birds. It covers legal requirements, journey planning, vehicle suitability, fitness to travel, causes and signs of stress in animals, space allowances, stocking densities, handling and animal welfare in transit and post journey requirements. It also covers the actual loading of stock and driving a vehicle.

What you need to do: Take a multiple choice computer based test (e-volve) and a practical test for assisting with the transport of animals by road on long journeys.

Long Distance Transport of Animals by Road – Driver

This is a mandatory qualification for those transporting animals by road on long journeys (over 8 hours duration) This qualification meets the requirements for a Certificate of Competence outlined in the Council Regulation (EC) No1/2005 on the Protection of Animals During Transport and the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 2006.

Qualification Overview: Candidates can choose to be assessed on animals or birds. The qualification covers legal requirements, journey planning, vehicle suitability, fitness to travel, causes and signs of stress in animals, space allowances, stocking densities, handling and animal welfare in transit and post journey requirements. It also covers the loading of stock and driving a vehicle loaded with stock.

What you need to do: Take a multiple choice computer based test (e-volve) and a practical test covering loading and driving a vehicle.

 

The course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practical training. Our Transport of Animals Training and assessment programme enables experienced plant operators to gain recognition for their achievements. Successful Transport of Animals Training course candidates get certified after demonstrating their skills, knowledge and attitudes associated with plant operations.
